New Kahui building

25.9.19

On Monday we moved into our new kahui the builders have been building the new kahui for about two years also the learning commons took two years to be built in the new kahui there are a lot of classes in the new kahui there are 15 classes in the kahui and the kahui is for the whole school the kahui I am in is tieke the other kahuis are mohua and riorio

when I walked into our new buildings I saw?
The first thing I saw when I walked into the new kahui is that there are still a lot of holes in the wall and some of the power sockets didn't work and some of the lights didn't work either and there was an upstairs for the teachers to work quitely also that we are working with another class and we have teared seating and lights on the back of the tv.

When I walked into our new buildings I thought?
That there are a lot of new learning spaces for everyone to use and there were a lot of classes in the new kahui that it was cool that they have led lights on the back of the tv.

Science blog

Today in science we watched a documentary about solar energy the documentary was one hour and 40 minutes long it was about solar energy and climate change thought the documentary it switched from 2019 to 2040 the guy that when from country to country asking kids what they would like to see in 2040.

What are 2 things you learned

I learned that seaweed can grow up to 50 meters and that each day it can grow up to half a meter

I also learned that you can trap carbon dioxide in soil because it will get trap in there.

What I would like to see in 2040?

What I would like to see in 2040 is that there is no pollution in the ocean so no sea animals die and world peace.

Solar energy

Aim

To see what colour attracts the most heat

Hypothesis

I think that the colour black attracts the most heat because it absorbs everything coming in from the sun and the darkest colour.

Materials

  1. 1 White piece of paper
  2. 1 White cup
  3. 1 Black piece of plastic
  4. 1  clear cup and Black cover
  5. Piece of tinfoil
  6. Cup covered in tinfoil
  7. Heat lamp
  8. 100mls of water in each cup
  9. thermometer
  10. And a timer

Steps

Step 1 Go to the teacher and get the material
Step 2 Get plastic cup with tinfoil on it
Step 3 get a foam cup and a clear cup
Step 4 Find a place to plug your heat lamp in
Step 5 full all of your cups up with 100mls of water
  Step 6 Get a thermometer
Step 7 cheek your temputer every 15 minutes

Data/Findings

Findings:

What happened in the plain plastic cup for 15 minutes it was 20 then 30 minutes was 20 then45 minutes was 20 again

What happened for the black cup was 15 minutes was 25 then 30 minutes was 35 then 45 minutes was 30.

Conclusion

In Conclusion my findings in this experiment state that black attracts the most heat because A black object absorbs all wavelengths of light and converts them into heat, so the object gets warm. Over in hotter countries, they don’t want to paint there houses black because it attracts the most heat so they paint their house white or silver.

wood tech

In wood tech we have been doing some really cool work out of wood I made 2 things they where tringle on a stick and a turtle car.

Tane Mahuta

Today in Tane Mahuta we have been doing a lot of work in the garden and the classroom. The first thing we did was go to the garden and started to pull the weeds out of the garden and there were a lot of weeds in the garden then we went to morning tea.

After that, we went back to the garden then we started to plant some broccoli, lettuce and celery I did this with my friends Levi, Tyson Hunter ms and me and there where other people but I can't remember their names.

After that, we went back to the garden part that had the weeds in it but there weren't as many weeds left but there was still a good amount left.

Then I went to clean up some branches and put them in a pile the people that helped me were my friends Levi, Tyson Hunter ms and I also helped also the teacher aid mark helped us as well.

My favourite part of today was when I got to help put the plants in the Ground the plants were broccoli, lettuce and celery we also started to plant some flowers.

Ella west visit

Today in P1 we went to the auditorium and Ella west was there to talk to the year 7/8s about her books one of her books are night vision and rainfall.

Ella west has her own sheep farm, also when she wrote her first book it took her 3 years to make she also had to rewrite Her whole book, she has a dog with two different eye colours.

The book night vision was made in 2014 and it has her own dog as one of the characters and the dog has two eye colours one is brown and one is blue.

The book Rainfall was only made last year in 2018
also, the book cover is made out of 3 photos from clip art also this book was basted in NZ and it is about a coal mine and 1000 people lost there job.

The part that I enjoyed the most was when we learned that she makes stuff up about a place and people think that it actually happened there.

Water cycle exp

Last Friday we did an exp that was where we had to draw the water cycle and add 1/4 of water into the bag and then put blue food dye in the bag.

Water Cycle

Purpose

To make a water Cycle to see what happens

Materials

Exp 1
1x Get a ziplock bag
1x Get a vivid and draw the Water Cycle
1 drop of blue food dye
¼ cup of cold water
1x A jug
2x Get two pieces of double-sided tape
Exp 2
1x Get a zip lock bag
1x Get a vivid and draw the water cycle
1x get Litmus paper and put it in the corner of the bag half in and half out
Get ¼ of water into my bag
1x get 1 drop of  blue food dye in it
Move the bag around to mix it
Get double-sided tape
Put it on the window

Steps

Exp 1
Step 1 1x Get a ziplock bag and write your teams names on the top
Step 2 Draw the water Cycle on one side of the bag
Step 3 unzip the ziplock bag
Step 4 Go to the teacher and get ¼ of cold water in the bag
Step 5  Put one drop of blue food dye in the bag
Step 6 Mix the food dye into the water
Step 7 Get the double-sided tape
Step 8 Go to Miss Shehata and get her to take the other side off
Step 9 Get  Miss Shehata to put the bag on the window
Step 10 Wait on the mat for the teacher
Exp 2
Step 1 1x Get a zip lock bag
Step 2 1x Get a vivid and draw the water cycle
Step 3 1x get Litmus paper and put it in the corner of the bag half in and half out

Step 4 Get ¼ of water into  your bag
Step 5 1x get 1 drop of  blue food dye in it the bag around to mix it
Step 6  2x get two pieces of double-sided tape
Step 7  1x Put ¼ of baking soda in the bag
Step 8 Close your bag tightly
Step 9  Put the double-sided tape on your bag
Step 10  go to Miss Shehata and get her to put it on the window
Step 11 Wait on the mat for the teacher

Conclusion

Exp 1
I think the outcome of the exp will be?
That the water will flow up higher in the bag because of the moisture from the side of the bag.

Exp 2
I think the outcome of the exp will be?
That the water will flow up higher in the bag because of them from the side of the bag and the Litmus paper will make it change colour.

Findings:

The Water Cycle: Bag 1
CO2 Water Cycle: Bag 2
Acid
Desert Water Cycle
Bag 3
Does it cycle?

Fossil fuels

Today in science we were learning about climate change.

Transport: most cars need gas or diesel to work gas is made from oil which is a fossil fuel.

Cows: create a gas called methane and it is 25x stronger than carbon dioxide.

Food: we need food to survive and is transported by trains planes trucks and ships and adds carbon dioxide.
Factories: make clothes cars electronics and processed foods that create a lot of pollution.

Electricity: can come from renewable sources out of water wind and sun fossil fuels release co2 into the atmosphere.

Waste: our landfills are growing and use good land and there are gases that contribute to climate change.
