Addiction to games

affect?

The World Health Organization included gaming disorder within the 11th revision of its International Statistical Classification of Diseases.[4][5] The American Psychiatric Association (APA), whilst stating there is insufficient evidence for the inclusion of internet gaming disorder in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders in 2013, considered it a condition for further study.[6]

Video game addiction also is known as gaming disorder or internet gaming disorder is generally defined as problematic, compulsive use of video and/or internet games, that results in significant impairment in an individual's function in various life domains over a prolonged period of time.

Question 1

Why do people get addicted to video games?
Although it is not yet recognized by the American Medical Association as a diagnosable disorder, video game addiction is a very real problem for many people. According to the University of New Mexico, recent studies suggest that 6 to 15 percent of all gamers exhibit signs that could be characterized as addiction.

For someone who has never played a computer or video game, it can be difficult to understand why they are quite so compelling.  Admittedly, in this day and age the number of people who have never played a video game are pretty low. A 2012 IGEA report shows that 93% of New Zealand homes own some device for playing games, and that most gamers play between half an hour to an hour at a time, every day or every other day.

Question 2

What kind of video games do people get addicted to?

A constantly developing world means constantly developing new medications, sciences, and technologies. Unfortunately, as new inventions are discovered, built, and sold to the public, that leaves a gap of what they could do to people in the long term.

In 2005, Shanghai gamer Qiu Chengwei stabbed a friend to death when he found out that he had sold a virtual sword belonging to Chengwei on eBay for 7,200 yuan ($738).   After narrowly avoiding a death sentence, Chengwei was sentenced to life imprisonment.

Question 3

How can we help people that are addicted to gaming?
Let's face it, all we do in life can become an addiction if we do it too frequently and we need to learn how to avoid this sort of habit if we want to see the best possible results. Playing games on the computer is most entertainment thing, and they can be a perfect hobby to rest and get rid of the stress of our daily lives, but they can also become a problem and a tool that alienates us from society if we let them become the center of our lives.

I’m here today because I’m addicted to video games. I’m here today because I want to be a part of a community who understands my struggle with gaming and won’t try to convince me that I need moderation or need to be less hard on myself. I recently opened up to my friends about gaming and its effect on my life and received mixed feedback.
